Avoiding Burnout and Serving with Fulfillment in Healthcare

Increasing public and professional awareness of the high prevalence and significant cost of burnout in healthcare workers has made it important to differentiate the burn out syndrome from other stress and mental health problems. This session will focus on an accurate diagnosis, an understanding of the pathways to professional burn out, and the review of the current knowledge of primary, secondary, and tertiary strategies for cross cultural healthcare workers to thrive and not just survive.

Objectives

1. The learner will be able to describe the primary differences between burnout and clinical problems
2. The learner will be able to identify early signs of burnout in oneself and in a colleague
3. The learner will be able to apply the basic skills of burnout prevention
