The purpose of this session is to review key principles of infection control and outbreak response for providers in the context of current emerging infectious diseases. We will focus on identifying the necessary isolation precautions in an outbreak, and the lessons learned on implementation from the Ebola outbreak in 2014-2016.

Objectives

• Describe isolation precautions for contact, droplet, and airborne isolation according to the organism's: Size, Stickiness, and Scariness.
• Discuss isolation and outbreak response in a resource limited context.
• Discuss the lessons learned during the Ebola response, and implications for future outbreaks.
