While literature abounds on how to provide 360 degree leadership from positions that report to the top officer in any organization or department, less has been written about leadership from the second chair when it is cross-cultural. Even less has been published on how to provide leadership as global health care workers reporting to local national leaders in our institutions or organizations who often are not medical professionals. Combining sensitivity to cultural differences in leadership styles as well as an adaptability with humility in serving those supervising us as cross-cultural healthcare providers, will be discussed.

Objectives

• Identify the unique challenges that come from providing leadership subject to the authority of national leaders in the cross-cultural medical care context
• Discuss biblical principles that guide healthcare missionaries in demonstrating servant leadership to national staff
• Describe strategies for successfully providing leadership in the cross-cultural health care team context
