Senior Vice President, System Chief Clinical and Strategy Officer
Steven T. Hester, M.D., MBA, was promoted to his current position in January 2023 after serving as division president, provider operations, and system chief medical officer since 2017. As Norton Healthcare’s chief clinical and strategy officer, he plays a crucial role in leading the system’s clinical transformation and strategic direction. He also has executive oversight for health policy. Dr. Hester has extensive experience leading a number of operational departments within Norton Healthcare and overseeing the growth of service lines and Norton Medical Group, with nearly 2,000 employed providers. Dr. Hester is a results- and patient-oriented leader.
Dr. Hester began working with Norton Healthcare as an emergency medicine physician serving as the director for Kentuckiana Emergency Physicians.
In 2005, he became Norton Healthcare’s chief medical information officer. From 2006 to 2008, he served as vice president, medical affairs, and chief medical information officer. He served as senior vice president and chief medical officer from 2008 to 2017.
Dr. Hester holds bachelor’s and medical degrees from the University of Louisville and a Master of Business Administration degree from Bellarmine University in Louisville. He completed his residency training in internal medicine and pediatrics at the University of Louisville School of Medicine.
As a lifelong resident of Louisville, Dr. Hester is committed to serving the patients of the community. Dr. Hester serves the community as a board member of multiple local organizations. He also serves on multiple national boards and committees that are focused on improving the delivery of health care for patients, including the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology Advisory Committee. Dr. Hester has been an active member of Southeast Christian for nearly 30 years.
