I have been practicing as a DNP-PNP since 2015. To date, I have been involved in 8 medical mission trips overseas. This has exposed me to the harsh reality that children in third world countries face when it comes to their health and wellness. Moreover, pediatric specialized health centers/hospitals are nonexistent in these areas. I believe that good health is a right of every child, hence my inspiration to start my own nonprofit organization, Mercy and Love Foundation Inc. (https://www.mercyandlovefoundation.org) aiming at building state of the art pediatric centered hospitals and health centers in underserved areas worldwide (in addition to continued annual medical missions). Access to quality affordable health care is a barrier in many of these areas where the nearest hospital can be hundreds of miles away. I am excited for breaking barriers in pediatric healthcare globally and I am looking forward to receiving support and collaboration from like-minded colleagues. I desire extensive knowledge which is why I’m also currently pursuing my MD. My PNP background is giving me an added advantage due to the experience and education.
My trips have involved supplying vitamins and other necessary medications such as antibiotics, oral healthcare education/supplying dental kits, and teaching oral hygiene and basic hygiene. Dental health is a severely underserved area of health in children globally. The worst dental caries I have ever seen in my entire career happened to be in Uganda. Thus, I was the leader is initiating a fluoride treatment program to orphaned children in Uganda.
